Sunflowers Nail Art

Sunflowers Nail Art

Day 14 of the 31 Day Nail Art Challenge is flowers.  I like yellow flowers so I painted little sunflowers on my nails using a toothpick over a clear base coat.  I was really happy with the result.

Colorful Gradient Nails

Gradient Nails

I have reached Day 10 of the challenge- double digits- woo hoo!  Day 10's prompt is gradient nails.  I've only tried gradient nail art once back in 2012 when I did my pink ombre nails.  I did today's nails specifically for the challenge and used a make up sponge to try to create the gradient effect. I wish I had gotten better photos but the ones I originally took had weird lighting so I had to take a couple more after they had already started to chip at the ends. The nail art didn't turn out exactly as I had hoped and I need more practice at it but I thought the colors were a pretty combination.  They remind me a little bit of a sunset.

Yellow 5SOS Nail Art

Yellow 5SOS Nail Art

Today I'm sharing yellow 5SOS inspired nail art! Day 3 of the 31 Day Challenge is yellow and I'm excited to post these because they are a part of a happy memory. 5SOS is short for 5 Seconds of Summer and is a band from Australia.  My sister is a fan and got concert tickets for her birthday so I made plans to visit so I could go with her and all my sisters.  Before I went, I painted my nails yellow and black and painted the band's tally logo on my thumb.

It's a Small World- Hearts Nail Art

I have some more hearts nail art to share with you all today!  If the pattern looks a bit familiar it's because it was inspired by what you could call a very obscure Disney character.  Can you guess who?

If you guessed the jaguar in the ride It's a Small World then you got it (and I'm really impressed because I don't think I would have even guessed it)!

On "it's a small world", you ride through many different countries including a rainforest in Brazil.  The rainforest section is my husband's favorite part of the ride and I still remember how sad we were when there were rumors that they were going to get rid of it when they did the refurbishment in 2008.  Luckily it's still there although it seems a bit smaller.  It was around that time that we ended up decorating one of our bathrooms with a It's a Small World RAINFOREST theme.  So when we saw they had the stuffed animal jaguar from it for sale at the Disney Store, we decided to add it to our collection.

I really love his heart-shaped spots and when I was trying to think of some Valentine hearts to paint on my nails- he came to mind!

I like how it turned out especially since the bright yellow is so cheerful.  I got several compliments on them and my hubby even wanted me to start carrying the jaguar around so people could see where the pattern came from!  I didn't carry him around (he a little too big for my purse) but I got some pictures with a friend of his at Disney California Adventure on the day I was wearing yellow and purple to match.

Now that I probably have the "It's a Small World" song in your head, here's a video from the blog, Theme Park Insider, that has a video of the ride.  You can spot jaguar and his rainforest section at around 8:10 in  the video.

What do you think of my Small World jaguar nails?  Do you remember the jaguar from the ride?

I hope you all enjoyed today's nail art and in case I don't have time to post again before the weekend- Happy Valentine's Day!

If you are interested in getting your own It's a Small World stuffed animal,  they currently still have some for sale on the Disney Store website!

Dinosaur Nail Art and a Jurassic Park Look!

I know it's been a while but it's finally time for some more posts!  To start I'm sharing my dinosaur nail art!  I did this manicure right before the weekend that Jurassic Park 3D got released in theaters.  My husband and I were excited for it so I decided to paint my nails for the occasion.  This was the result:

At first I wasn't sure whether to paint a friendly dinosaur or a scary one. I ended up deciding on a friendly one on my fingernails and then on my thumbnail I attempted to paint dinosaur footprints.  I think my dinosaur ended up resembling Dinosaur Gertie from her ice cream stand at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Disney World.

There is also more dinosaur fun at DinoLand U.S.A. inside Animal Kingdom.  I like the the ride, 'Dinosaur,' that they have there and and all the cute dinosaurs in Chester and Hester's Dino-Rama.  They were in also in my mind when I painted my nails. (Can you tell I miss Disney World?)

In addition to painting my nails I made an attempt at "Disneybounding"!  For those of you not familiar with the term, it comes from this great Tumblr site called DisneyBound.  On this site they create several inspiration boards for outfits inspired by Disney characters, movies, rides, and more!  They also post what people come up with and it's pretty awesome to see how creative people get (Check out Hope's penguin outfit!).  Sometimes DisneyBound even does some outfits inspired by some non-Disney movies and the week Jurassic Park came back to theaters they posted ideas for an outfit inspired by it.  I went for it and this is what I came up with:

Those pictures were taken at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail at California Adventure.  I wore green, brown, and black and also wore my Dinosaur necklace.

Here is a pic of my nails by a sign on the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail.

Footprints!

I had so much fun watching Jurassic Park 3D on the big screen! I was happy I was able to do some dinosaur nail art before I went to see it!

What do you all think of my dinosaur nail art and my Jurassic Park inspired outfit?   I had a lot of fun trying to come up with an outfit that had the same inspiration as my nail art... I may have to do it again sometime!

Weekend Update- More Yellow, Gold Polish, & other news!

So I've got two new manicures coming up this week!  One of which I'm really excited about sharing and is what I have on right now!  I'll be getting the first one up soon but until then I thought I'd post other pictures from this past weekend!

On Friday I wore yellow which matched perfectly with my yellow mani.  The yellow definitely brightened my mood that day (the fact that it was Friday helped too)!

On Saturday I stepped into a Sephora and noticed this polish by OPI.  It's real gold!  I sampled it on one of my nails and it was really pretty and just like pixie dust!

It was $30 for a bottle though which was too high for me but I did treat myself to a different polish which I'll share after I get to try it out!

In other news, I started a Facebook and Twitter page! If you'd like to check it out the link to the Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/pixiedustnailsblog and the link to Twitter is https://twitter.com/pixiedustnails.

I'll end this with a photo clue about what the manicure I'll be sharing next is!

Have a great week everyone!

Yellow Polish, plus Collage and Music Nails!

Today’s post features 3 manicures I did this week!
Some of my family was in town for a few days last weekend.  I felt sad after they headed home so I painted my nails in a cheerful color to try to brighten my mood. I picked the color yellow!  I used a NYC nail polish called “Taxi Yellow Creme".  It took a few coats but in the end my nails were a happy soft yellow.
I took out my new dotting tools for practice and used it to paint dots on my nails.  I used L.A. Colors “Sea Siren”.  It was a very simple mani that didn’t take too long to do.  I even threw in a hidden Mickey.

My family was only in town for a few days but I did manage to do quick manis on my sisters.  Although I started out with the new nail tools I had gotten I ended up going back to the tools I was used to for time reasons.  For one of my sisters I painted her nails with a collage of different designs because I couldn’t decide on one. I put Sanrio's Batz Maru on one nail, glitter on another, and what reminded us of her cat on her thumb.

For my other sister we did a music theme and I painted music notes on her nails along with some zig zag lines, stars, and microphones.

I wish we’d had more time but I'm so happy they were able to visit.  I really miss them all a lot and I have been a bit of an Eeyore since they’ve left.
On a happier note, I think I’ll be starting the 31 day manicure challenge in the next couple weeks. I hit a bit of a creative block in general so I think it will be a great way to push myself and maybe even learn some new nail tricks as I go.
