Tree Silhouette Nail Art- Into The Woods Reunion

In early November, I was able to attend the Into the Woods Reunion at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts.  The reunion was amazing and included many from the original Broadway cast as well as the show's creators, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine.

Throwback: Avengers Nail Art

The first Avengers 5k and Half Marathon is going on at Disneyland this weekend so here's a throwback to my Avengers nail art!

This was one of my earlier nail art attempts and it's fun to look back at it!  It remains one of my favorites that I've done and I really enjoyed having it on my nails!

Good luck to all the runners this weekend and have fun!

For more info about how to do this nail art, check out my post about it here:

Toy Story Alien Nail Art

I did this nail art a while back but never got around to sharing them!  It was in March and around St. Patrick's Day.  I decided to wear green by painting some aliens from Toy Story on my nails!  I also added "the claw" on my thumb.

I ended up getting lots of pictures of this mani while at Disneyland. I found quite a few cute Toy Story aliens while I was there.

Chevron Nails Inspired by Bracelet

One of my sisters made me a bracelet.  I love it!  When I was wearing it I realized that I had colors in my Kiss Nail Artist Kits that matched perfectly so I painted a design inspired by the bracelet.

First I did a clear base coat and then after it dried I added chevron lines in the yellow, green, and pink colors that I had.  The polishes in the kit have long thin brushes that make it easier to paint lines. Once it was dry, I added a clear top coat.

I hadn't done a design over a clear polish besides French tips so I wasn't sure how it'd come out but I ended up really liking it!  I love how it looked from far and a few people commented on them and even noticed the matching bracelet!  I was happy with these.  A very special thanks to my sister for the bracelet and providing the inspiration!  :)

Hi there! - an update

Hi there!  It's been quite a while since my last post so I thought I would write a quick update.  The past couple months have been one of the busiest times for me so I ended up taking a break from blogging.  My schedule is still packed but hopefully I'll get over here more often!   I've done a lot of nail art over the past few months that I have still yet to share so I'll try to start posting some soon.  I have one ready to share later today!  Happy Autumn everyone!

Happy 4th! - Fireworks Nail Art

I hope everyone is having a happy 4th of July!  My 4th of July nails were starting to chip so I changed them up and did fireworks nail art.  It was a suggestion from my husband and although I did them in a bit of a rush, I think they turned out okay!  Sooo...it's time for some fireworks!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!  Happy Independence Day!

4th of July- USA Nail Art Tutorial

With the 4th of July coming up next week and with team USA advancing in the World Cup, I thought it was a good time for some patriotic nails.  I came up with this simple design and created a tutorial in case you want to try it too!

Pixie Dust Nails- 4th of July USA Nails

What You'll Need:
Clear Base Coat
Blue Nail Polish
White Nail Polish
Red Nail Polish
Top Coat
Toothpicks

Step 1.  Apply the clear base coat on your nails (I used Seche Clear base coat).

Step 2.  Once the clear coat is dry, pick a blue polish you like and paint your nails that color.  I used a pretty sparkly blue polish by Sinful Colors called "Blue By You."

Step 3.  After the blue polish has dried, grab your white polish and a toothpick and paint a star on one of your fingers.  I chose the ring finger but you can choose a different one if you prefer- or you could even paint stars on all of them if you like!  Here's a graphic I made on how to freehand paint a star onto your nail.

How to Paint a Star on Your Nails

Step 4.  Once your star is done and has dried, grab your red polish and a new toothpick and add red stripes next to the star.

Step 5.  After the red polish has dried, add your top coat (I used Seche Vite dry fast top coat) and you are done!

This nail art could also be Captain America inspired nails since they match him too!  My husband pointed that out when he saw them.  :)

I hope this tutorial is helpful.  Let me know if you try it out!

Elsa Snow Inspired Nails- Frozen

It's time for the third Frozen inspired manicure I promised!

I did this nail art right before my husband and I went to Chicago.  Chicago was experiencing some VERY cold weather at the time so I decided I'd make an attempt at more Elsa inspired nails with an emphasis on snow!

I started off with the same polish I used for my other Frozen nails, Essie "Parka Perfect."  Then I added some white polish with a q-tip and glitter polish on top.  I also painted a snowflake on my ring finger.  I had a hard time painting the snowflake and it took me two tries but in the end this was my result:

Here are photos of my nails around Chicago-

We visited the Art Institute of Chicago during our visit.  There is so much beautiful artwork there, it's overwhelming!  I took a photo of my nails while inside.  My nail art seemed like a simple doodle compared to the amazing masterpieces that hung on those walls!

Here's a pic of my nails at the Adler Planetarium next to what I believe was moon stone.

My nails definitely matched my surroundings outside!

Frozen Lake Michigan

Cold Chicago weather definitely reminded me of Frozen!   I liked how beautiful snow was though and I am happy I got to spend some time in it this year.

We ended up seeing Frozen a third time at the theater when we got back.  I watched it with a new sense of what "cold" meant.

That was the last Frozen inspired nail art I have to share for now!  If you missed the other two, you can find them here:

San Antonio Spurs Nail Art

The NBA Finals are going on and my Spurs are back in it!  There isn't another sports team that I love nearly as much as I love this one.  They remind me of home, family, and happy memories!

I painted my nails in two of the team colors- black and silver.  I had to add a spur in there of course so I did that using the silver polish from my Kiss Nail Artist kit.  I also added some silver glitter polish.

I really hope they win it!  I'll be rooting loudly for them-  GO SPURS GO!

Colorful Easter Nails

Today I'm sharing my Easter nail art that I currently have on my nails right now!

For my Easter nails, I knew I wanted something colorful so I started out by going through my polishes and picking out bright and happy colors.  These are the polishes I ended up using as the base colors:

Nicole by OPI (Selena Gomez collection) "Love Song"
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear "Mellow Yellow"
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear "Blizzard Blue"
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear "Green with Envy"
Sinful Colors "Pink Forever"
Kiss Nail Artist Kit (I used a couple polishes from this kit for the stripes and chevron lines)

I painted each of my nails a different color and then thought about what I wanted on each nail.  I wanted some of my nails to look like Easter eggs but I wanted to add a bunny in there too so I chose my ring finger to paint bunny ears.  On my thumbnail, I painted some flowers.  To paint each design, I I stuck to colors that were on the other nails to try to make it all look more cohesive. I was pleased with how it came out and the result was definitely as colorful and happy as I'd been hoping for!

I did the same thing on my right hand except on my thumbnail, I painted clouds instead of flowers.

If you want to do similar Easter nail art, go for it!  You could even just stick to a simple mani using spring colors if you don't have time to paint on the designs.  I almost left my nails that way since spring colors looks so great on their own!  I don't think I'll be painting any Easter eggs this year though so I thought painting designs on my nails were a fun way to make up for it.

Have a happy Easter everyone and happy Spring!

P.S.  I know I promised one more Frozen inspired mani but my schedule got too busy so I'm saving it for later since Easter is coming up fast!  It'll hopefully be one of the next ones I share!  :)

Olaf Summer Nail Art- Frozen

It's time for more Frozen nail art!  This actually might be my favorite of the three that I'll be sharing.  Take a look at my Olaf summer nails!

When I first saw Frozen, I definitely did not expect to love Olaf as much as I did!  He was so funny and happy, he definitely makes me smile.  Not long after watching the movie, I decided I wanted to attempt some nail art inspired by him.

I ended up painting Olaf's face on my ring finger.  I used white polish for the background and then used a toothpick and dotting tool to paint on his face.  It didn't turn out perfectly but I think I still managed to capture the look of my favorite happy snowman!  On the other nails, I used the same Essie "Parka Perfect" polish that I used for my Frozen Elsa Blue nails.  Using a dotting tool, I painted on white dots to represent a snowy winter.  Then because Olaf loves summer so much, I added some sunshine to my thumbnail.

In the end I had a wintery summer look that I think Olaf would enjoy.  As he would say, "The hot and the cold are both so intense, put 'em together it just makes sense!"

Put Olaf in summer and he'll be a...happy snowman!

It was while I had this on my nails that my husband and I went to see Frozen a second time.  I think the Olaf at the theater liked this nail art too!

My Olaf Summer nails ended up being the nail art that brought about one of my favorite nail compliments ever!  There was an evening after work where my husband and I visited the Napa Rose lounge and sat at the bar.  The bartender was really nice and when he noticed my nails he asked me about them.  When I showed him the sun on my thumbnail, he practically sang the word summer like Olaf does in the song "In Summer".  I love when my nails make someone smile and almost making someone sing was pretty awesome.

Here's one last picture of my Olaf Summer nails.  This one is at the Disney Store.  I liked their display there!

What do you all think?  I hope they made you smile or maybe even put Olaf's "In Summer" song in your head!  :)

Frozen Elsa Blue / Blue Fairy Nails

In late January, I saw Frozen for the first time.  I originally didn't have much interest in the film based on the trailers I had seen which was why I took so long to go watch it.  I'm so glad I did though because it became my favorite new movie I had seen in a very long time!  As the big sister of 3 amazing young ladies, I loved that it was about sisters and Elsa quickly became one my heroes for too many reasons to list.
I ended up watching Frozen three times in the theater and enjoyed it each time.  I can't wait until it's on DVD so I can watch it again.  Just a little more than a week to go!  To help me wait until March 18, I thought I'd have a week dedicated to Frozen and share the three Frozen inspired manicures I've done over the last two months!
Let's start with this one!

So I must admit this manicure did not start out as Frozen inspired.  I did this one around the time I did the Tinkerbell 10k and chose this blue to go with my Blue Fairy outfit.  I actually had this nail art on one hand and kept my Tinkerbell nail art on the other.  I couldn't decide whether to keep Tink on my nails for my run or to try to match my nails to my outfit so I did both!  It probably didn't look the best together but separately they were great!  haha.   Here's how the blue matched my Blue Fairy outfit!

A couple days after the 10k, my husband and I finally went to see Frozen for the first time.  I fell in love with the film and was delighted that my blue fairy nails also matched Elsa's colors.  Olaf at the theater seemed to like them too!

The blue polish I used has become one of my favorites that I own.  It was a gift from my mother-in-law for Christmas and the color is called Essie "Parka Perfect."  I put some sparkly polish on top (Nicole by OPI Selena Gomez collection- "Stars At Night") to do the simple manicure above.  It turned out that this Essie blue polish reminds me of Frozen every time I use it so it's no surprise that it's the same blue I used for all the Frozen nail art I plan to share this week!

Orange Bird Nail Art and Outfit

This past Sunday, I went to Dapper Day at Disneyland!  After my last post, I was determined to wear an outfit inspired by something Disney and to paint my nails to match.  After going through my closet, I decided to wear a look inspired by Orange Bird from Disney World!

I already had an orange dress I bought last year that I still hadn't worn.  I don't usually wear orange and was unsure about it but using it to DisneyBound as Orange Bird seemed like the perfect excuse to give it a try!

I found a fake flower I had lying around and cut off its leaves so I could add them to my black hat.  (Does the hat look familiar?  It's the same one I used when I dressed like Anita for Halloween in 2012.)

After grabbing my Orange Bird necklace and some greenish shoes from my closet, I had everything I needed for my outfit! Next up was the fun part- my nails!   Here's the completed look!

To do my Orange Bird nails, I picked out an orange nail polish, Sally Hansen "Sun Kissed," and painted all of my nails that color.  Then I painted Orange Bird on my ring finger.

I used our Orange Bird sipper we have at home (as seen in the first picture) as a guide and with a dotting tool I painted white ovals for his eyes.  After it dried I added the black dots.  I used a toothpick to paint his eyebrows and then used another toothpick and some yellow polish to paint his beak.

His beak was hard to do!  My first attempt was his beak at a different angle but that didn't work at all so I went back to the sipper and used that as a guide for the beak also.  Next I got some green polish and added green to the tops of all my nails.

In the end I liked the result and I think our Orange Bird Vinylmation did too!  (btw- can you tell how much we like Orange Bird?)

I had a fun time at Dapper Day and enjoyed wearing this outfit!  I even got interviewed by some folks from the Disney Style blog with my friends.  They got a close up of my nails- not sure if they'll ever use it but I am flattered that they thought it was worth getting a shot of!

Here are some pictures from around the parks that day!  I'm sharing a detailed recap on my other blog, So Disney, so make sure to check it out to read more!

With the stylish Phyllis Herman! I had total glasses envy!

Fastpasses make any manicure look fabulous!  ;)

Rosita's Margaritas make them look pretty good too!

For my fellow Doctor Who fans-  look who I found at the park!  This guy was an awesome 10th Doctor!

With @TheDoctor_Tennant.  Allons-y!

I'll end with one of my favorite photos of that day!  My husband was busy in the morning but he joined me at Disneyland later on and surprised me by wearing his Orange Bird shirt.  Yay-  I love when we match!

So that was my nail art and outfit for this year's Dapper Day!  What do you all think?

It's a Small World- Hearts Nail Art

I have some more hearts nail art to share with you all today!  If the pattern looks a bit familiar it's because it was inspired by what you could call a very obscure Disney character.  Can you guess who?

If you guessed the jaguar in the ride It's a Small World then you got it (and I'm really impressed because I don't think I would have even guessed it)!

On "it's a small world", you ride through many different countries including a rainforest in Brazil.  The rainforest section is my husband's favorite part of the ride and I still remember how sad we were when there were rumors that they were going to get rid of it when they did the refurbishment in 2008.  Luckily it's still there although it seems a bit smaller.  It was around that time that we ended up decorating one of our bathrooms with a It's a Small World RAINFOREST theme.  So when we saw they had the stuffed animal jaguar from it for sale at the Disney Store, we decided to add it to our collection.

I really love his heart-shaped spots and when I was trying to think of some Valentine hearts to paint on my nails- he came to mind!

I like how it turned out especially since the bright yellow is so cheerful.  I got several compliments on them and my hubby even wanted me to start carrying the jaguar around so people could see where the pattern came from!  I didn't carry him around (he a little too big for my purse) but I got some pictures with a friend of his at Disney California Adventure on the day I was wearing yellow and purple to match.

Now that I probably have the "It's a Small World" song in your head, here's a video from the blog, Theme Park Insider, that has a video of the ride.  You can spot jaguar and his rainforest section at around 8:10 in  the video.

What do you think of my Small World jaguar nails?  Do you remember the jaguar from the ride?

I hope you all enjoyed today's nail art and in case I don't have time to post again before the weekend- Happy Valentine's Day!

If you are interested in getting your own It's a Small World stuffed animal,  they currently still have some for sale on the Disney Store website!
