Winnie the Pooh and friends Nail Art

It's Day 23 of the 31 Day Challenge and the prompt is "inspired by a movie."  I chose to share this nail art I did to match my Winnie the Pooh outfit I wore for the Disneyland 10K a couple weeks ago.  I think it fits the theme since Winnie the Pooh does have a couple movies!

Harry Potter Nails

Yesterday, July 31st, was Harry Potter's and J.K. Rowling's birthday!  Here's a throwback post to nail art I did a while back that were Harry Potter inspired!  I kept it simple and painted most of the nails in Gryffindor colors.  On one of the nails I added the number 9 and 3/4 to represent everyone's favorite train platform and on my pinkie I painted the Golden Snitch.  I'd like to do something like this again since I was a bit rushed but I think it still earns some Gryffindor points!  Here it is with my Hogwarts mug:

Beach Ball Nails - inspired by Teen Beach 2

A couple weeks ago, Teen Beach 2 premiered on the Disney Channel.  Although I think the first one is better, the sequel is enjoyable and now there is a new set of catchy songs that get stuck in my head! Summer isn't my favorite season but the movie definitely got me more excited about summer time and I used it as inspiration for my nails!

Tree Silhouette Nail Art- Into The Woods Reunion

In early November, I was able to attend the Into the Woods Reunion at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts.  The reunion was amazing and included many from the original Broadway cast as well as the show's creators, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. 

Throwback: Avengers Nail Art

The first Avengers 5k and Half Marathon is going on at Disneyland this weekend so here's a throwback to my Avengers nail art! 

This was one of my earlier nail art attempts and it's fun to look back at it!  It remains one of my favorites that I've done and I really enjoyed having it on my nails!

Belle Inspired Nails

Today I have some more Disney nail art to share.  This one is special to me because it was inspired by my favorite Disney movie and because my youngest sister gave me the idea.

For Christmas, my husband gifted me some AWESOME nail polish... Burberry polish!  We wore Burberry shoes for our wedding so the polish was a great surprise.  It came in a gold box and was in the cutest bottle that had the famous Burberry check on it.

He picked a pretty gold color called Light Gold (No. 107).  I thought it would be perfect for New Years so I tried it out right away since New Years Eve was coming up.

I added some gold glitter polish that I borrowed from my sister to the top part of my nails.  A couple days later that same sister told me that it reminded her of Belle.  I looked at my nails and saw exactly what she was talking about!  As soon as I got back to my apartment from my trip to see family, I painted a rose on my thumb to complete the look.  I love how it turned out!

I had this nail art on my nails around New Years but I think it would be great for February too.  I think they have sort of a romantic look.  Here's one last picture of my nail art with a lovely birthday gift I got from a friend of mine!

101 Dalmatian Nails

Today I'm sharing what nail art I did to match my Halloween costume.  A couple days before Halloween, I went to Mickey's Halloween Party at Disneyland.  Everyone can wear a costume to these parties even the grown ups and we all get to trick or treat around the park!  My husband and I decided we'd be Roger and Anita from 101 Dalmatians this year.  So of course I painted my nails with some dalmatian spots!

Star Wars- Darth Maul Nails

This is my attempt at nail art inspired by Darth Maul from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace!

 

I did this mani about 2 weeks ago.  I wanted to try to do a design on my nails that resembled the one Darth Maul has on his face.  I printed out some pictures to use as reference and freehanded the black with a thin brush. The results were a bit messy and my triangles didn't come out quite right.  I wasn't very happy with them at the time but looking back at the photos, I think they were okay for a first attempt!

Fun little tidbit- this past May, my husband and I went to Disney World for our honeymoon and were able to check out Star Wars weekends at  Disney's Hollywood Studios.  We were pretty excited when we saw Ray Park there.  He plays Darth Maul in the Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace!

Sleeping Beauty- Pink and Blue Nails

In my last post I shared my Maleficent nails.  When I did those nails I did Maleficent on one hand and then decided to do something simpler on my other hand (mostly since it was getting late that night!).  I wanted to try to stick to the Sleeping Beauty theme and ended up painting the nails on my other hand pink and blue.

I chose pink and blue because they remind me of the scene where two of the fairies in Sleeping Beauty are arguing over the color of the dress they're making for her ("Make it pink!"  "Make it blue!"). I did two of my nails with both colors.  I didn't use tape and just freehanded the two colors because the dress gets a bit messy so I didn't need a straight line.

This was really quick one to do!  I may do it again sometime!

Sleeping Beauty- Maleficent Nails

Last week was my friend Hope's birthday!  Because Sleeping Beauty is her favorite, I took up her suggestion for Maleficent nails as a surprise!  I wasn't sure if I'd be able to paint the dragon version of Maleficent but I think it came out pretty well! 

For those who are unfamiliar with Disney's Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent is the villain who curses Princess Aurora.  At the climax of the film Maleficent transforms into a large dragon which is the version of her that I tried to paint.  (You can see Maleficent as a dragon in my favorite show at Disneyland -Fantasmic!)

To do this mani, I started out with purple and black on my nails.

Afterwards I freehanded the dragon and fire onto my nails.  It took a little while but I think the result was worth it!  Hope seemed happy when she saw them too so I think the results were successful!  :)

After my friend's birthday party I took a quick photo of my nails outside the Lego Store at Downtown Disney!  They have Maleficent on top of the building!

"Up" Inspired Nails- First Attempt

After my France nails, I decided that I wanted to make an attempt at "Up" inspired nails!  I love the house and balloons in the movie "Up" so I decided to go for it.  I also wanted to try painting my nails so that when I line them up in a certain way you get the full picture.  I've seen the nail pros do this on other sites and I always think it is so cool!  It is like you have a surprise hidden in your nail art. (Disclaimer: This is my first try at it. haha!)

To start off I picked out a color from my stash of nail polish that seemed like a good sky blue and painted that on first.  The color I used was KleanColor "Blue Pearl."

After I let that dry, I practiced sketching the house on a piece of paper.  I tried to keep it simple. Once I felt comfortable drawing it, I got to work recreating it on my thumbnails. I recommend using a thin brush or a toothpick. I used black polish to do the outline first then I used some bright colors to fill it in.  

I drew lines coming out of the house to represent the strings holding the balloons and then on the rest of my nails I used a bobby pin to draw dots as the balloons.  For this I used an assortment of colors.  The balloons were a little tricky because I couldn't get the circles exactly how I wanted them but in the end I think I got the effect I wanted. Here's the result!

I wasn't sure how I felt about my nails because I was a bit disappointed in my balloons but the next day I found that I kept holding my nails up and pretending the house was floating away.  Over the last couple days I discovered that I also like how it looked with these two nails together:  

Not perfect but it was fun to do and I hope to try it again sometime!

In other news, recently I found out that some of my family is visiting me this weekend and I'm really excited!  I offered to paint my youngest sister's nails during her visit and she seemed happy about it.  The next day I decided I would invest in some nail art tools that I can use while she is here!  I ordered these on Amazon. 

I can't wait to try these out.  My bobby pins and toothpicks usually do the trick but for my sisters I was willing to spend a little money. I look forward to sharing what design I come up with for her next week!   

Avengers Nails

When Marvel's new film was coming to theaters my sisters were very excited!  They're fans of the other Marvel films and got me to watch them.  I decided I wanted to be like Nick Fury and make my nails my own team of Avengers!

For this one, I took some time to come up with a simple design for each nail to represent each Avenger.  Since I was planning to do the same 5 Avengers on each hand, I had to cut one of the Avengers from the film (sorry Black Widow)! 
Here is what I created in Word when I was coming up with what I planned to do!

 

After having my sister confirm these designs would be okay to represent each Avenger, I got started!

First I painted each nail it's appropriate color and let them dry.  For the thumb that was going to be the Captain America nail, I put tape on the top half of the nail and then painted the rest in blue.

Afterwards I used thin brushes and hand painted the designs on each nail.  For the thumb I removed the tape and then painted the rest of the design in.  It took some time- some of the nails took a couple tries! Here are my Avengers!

Thumb= Captain America

Index Finger=  Hulk

Middle Finger= Iron Man

Ring Finger= Thor

Pinkie= Hawkeye

This was probably my favorite manicure I've done so far!  It started a lot of fun conversations with people who asked me about them!  They lasted a long time too (2+ weeks)!  I was a little sad when it came time to remove them!
